Harmonica Lesson: Jazz Blues in 11th Position on the diatonic harmonica

The next time you find yourself at a jazz jam and call a blues, this is probably the style of blues you will play. Bb Blues in 11th on a C diatonic harmonica is the perfect position for a jazz jam. The demonstration uses a C harp and and Eb harp. The backing tracks I made can be found here: www.buddhasgarden.net

Wow I had heard of 3 positions on the harp so far. 11th position? huh? Is there a good site to get some of the theory that goes with all that position playing?

In any case I love what Chris is playing, really some amazing good stuff! Grats man you are awesome!

Now this is a convincing pitch for the second flat position! Much cooler than cross harp here.

Even for us nudniks.

Yeah Chris, I’m a fan man.

I’m completely self-taught.

The harmonica is my main instrument but I have pianos and guitars in the house. I learned from reading books and applying it to my music.

Chris, I have a question, is harmonica the only instrument you play? if it was, how did you learn so much theory?

22 harpfelt { 06.04.10 at 3:06 am }
